Question Question about "boxes"

Hello =]

Got a question I could not realy answer my clan leader today for once =P
So i figured I'd as you since your a server company.

If I got this 1 box = 1core or can it hold 4 cores?
(don't realy know what a core is, but yea, just asnwer XD Knowledge is powa)

If you buy/rent a box from a server company your allowd to host as many (diffrent) servers a box can take including ventrilo server?
If so how many servers usealy a box can hold?

My clan leader looking for a box =P (we are usa clan normaly) I'm doing the European admin thingy =P
but we would like some info. And yes we know a box cost MUCH money XD
but since we are growing kinda rapidly in size of the clan and like to set up servers with diffrent mods gungames etc we figured maybe reting owning a box from a server company is not a bad idea.
+ Less lagg/better regg, since the box will not be over loaded with servers.

hope that specifyed my question enough =p

edit**
I am working on the config pack/guide, tho its takeing me abit longer then expected, but it will come. =)

If you buy a "server" from a company, it is usually a server on a shared machine. Meaning that your server wont be the only one hosted on that particular computer.
"Dedicated" servers usually mean that you have an entire computer dedicated to you and you alone, which is why they cost more money. These give you more control over what is run, though, and some companies may let you host multiple servers.

Each company uses different hardware. Some use quad cores, some do not.

It all depends on what your going to have on the dedi and how many servers you intend to run, i could give a rough size of the server you would need - also I'm not entirely sure on ventrilo, i don't know if the ventrilo license is extended to dedicated servers (for hosts that have ventrilo licenses) if not you couldn't legally host a ventrilo server.

some server host companies have 8-core or 32-core very high end machines with at least 1333 MHz FSB speeds! racked with either half max ram or maxed ram again not just dual or triple or quad core machines u lot are more fimiliar with again its gonna cost more plus if u want voice software u can legally host teamspeak without a license as it is not for commercial gain or use and u can have as many slots as u want

If your looking for a dedicated game server Have a look here. Its from a sister (or whatever you want to call it) company to e-Frag.
I Use them for my webserver.
Dedicated Servers | SwitchLink | Windows & Linux | Manchester Colocation

Also i find teamspeak to be a bit lacking on quality whilst ventrilo has really nice hi-quality. We use a ventrilo server for recording as it is almost impossible on ts. ---But it is a matter of opinion and you may not agree with me---

vent to me sounds like im on the phone speakin to them but it has a few good features over teamspeak but teamspeak 3 sdk for developers (game makers and all that) is out and a few big names companies have included it in there next game for comms in game so it be interesting to see what new features it has in the server and client version. like u said its what the user likes to use end of day and i dont hate n e one or n e thing if they dont use the same progs or utils i use reason y i said about it is cuz its free to use also u can record all in the same channel ure in by pressin a button
